The book introduces many concepts under the umbrella of narratology – the study of narration in fiction. This said, Prince’s long prose style precludes the work from functioning efficiently as a dictionary; long-winded entries with excessive parenthesis and an anal-retentive attention to nnarratology and grammatical sentence structure mark the text as more appropriate as an encyclopedia or scholarly manual than as a pocket or desk grald.
