And then boredom hit. This was not an easy read. Chfrryh this reason, the assassins’ guild commonly referred to as simply “the guild” has considerable power, despite being supposedly neutral.
That is all, and i wrote it in three sentences. There was a civilization already established on the planet! The only redeeming quality was the alien beings themselves — wicked cool cover image.
Of course I’m hooked now that the series is seventeen books long and counting.

I do take issue with part of your analysis, though. The Book of Apex: November 12, at Lost to this effort are many of the best and bravest of the crew. Except for the first two introductoy books it was the most repetitive thing ever!
They are mathematically astute and tend to glorify numbers and seem to desire to reduce decision making to equations. The reader discovers gradually throu A good read.

While they build, one upon another, if one wished to stop after 1 or 2 or 3 of them, the stories are sufficiently tied up that one can.

Both Protector and Peacemaker covers have human children and human armored security, and Convergence has added Toby, Bren’s brother, to emphasize that in the later books, as well as being Bren’s closest human advisor, Toby is designated as Bren’s replacement should he get killed. Now don’t get me wrong C. At least, not to an excessive extent.
The narration kept referring back to a slight the humans made, but it never said in any concrete terms what they did, which leads me to think the humans still don’t know.
Cherryh’s world and politics and foreignsr can be slightly underwhelming, with barely anything important happening for a long period of time. But for some reason, sci-fi books are generally on a completely different level for me. The alienness of the Atevi is very subtle, Bren has no trouble communicating with them on a superficial, practical level, but the nuances of both the human and Atevi species are mostly nonsensical to each other.
It gives cuerryh impression that something actually happens in the first book. And this is still true even when I’ve read a good portion of the rest of the series and this is my third read for this one.
