For those who are interested in classical drawingg, this book is a must. I also learned an invaluable of approach, that of working from the general to the specific. Other books in this series. In simple terms, academic art institutions and ateliers at that time were mainly concerned with reproducing nature. Vol 3 has only about 20 full-page illustrations and the rest are pretty tiny.
Though I have only gotten through the first few drawings, this is probably the best way to learn drawing if you cannot take part in atelier training. They were lighter overall, but had nice gradation. I had always wanted to see what it looked like, and now I’m probably going to buy a copy and work my way through it as well. But if you are actually going to use the book I would suggest that you try to find the least expensive copy you can get, since you will destroy the value of the book during copying.
