This is not the type of book that can be read and understood over a casual bowl of breakfast cereal and a glass of orange juice, and those lacking an elementary, pre-existing understanding of electronic circuitry may find themselves a bit overwhelmed.
Next, the author walks the reader through power sources for the amplifier dealing with how power supplies work, how to build regulated supply types, all you’ll need to know about the variety of power designs, and how to use each of the components needed in them.

On the other hand, if you’ve been using tubes for years, can read a schematic, and have assembled several amplifiers or preamplifiers, but never quite understood just what was going on in all that nice circuitry, then Bruce’s book can unveil all the mysteries of amplification which you have wondered about all this time.

After exploring the foundations of tube circuit design, Rozenblit, in a chapter entitled “Amplifier Parts,” delves into an assortment of yb circuits used in amplifier design. It was not my intention to write a book about “Mr. Want to Read saving….
From there it’s on to single-stage feedback circuits, multistage basics, a tour of amplifier parts of nruce types, what output stages and transformers do including the newly popular single-ended typesand such variations as triode and ultralinear operation.

The Germans Reiner zur Linde and Japanese Asano,Shishido et al ar far ahead of anything published in English to date and until the US press “catches gozenblit or someone translates these works,I think the would-be tube designer would do well to concentrate on literature beginber the mainstream tube period.
He is a frequent contributor to Glass Audio magazine. In simple language with no unexplined jargon, he steps through the basic types of tubes, what tube characstics mean, how to read those funny charts, and understand specifications. Every time I read it I learn something new.
This may be considered a “beginners guide” for tube audio design These step by step construction guides for a line level pre-amplifier, a transformerless output OTL amplifier, and a test bench power supply include schematics, parts lists, construction hints, and Bruce’s commentary on the various choices incorporated in each design.

There was a problem filtering reviews right now. The book most definately assumes a rudimentary knowledge of basic electricity.
I was left with a need to take what the author was saying with a grain of salt, but this makes me pay attention to details and cross reference when I otherwise would not. It is highly focused on tube audio design.

I recognize that things would get technical but I was hoping that as a beginner book there would be some explanation of things before it jumped in. This book is the best beginner’s guide available on what vacuum tubes do and how to use them. Systematically the author steps through single one-stage amplifiers, how to build a simple gain circuit, what negative feedback is, what it does, and how to use it. As indicated above, this book contains some fairly technical information and Bruce pulls no punches as he launches into the heart of the subject matter from the opening pages.
